Sinus lift surgery enables safe implant placement
Secures maxillary sinus space to enable stable implant placement in posterior maxillary area
Sinus lift surgery?
'Is it really necessary?'
The space from above the upper molars to the cheekbone and upper jaw is called the 'maxillary sinus'. When the maxillary sinus descends, implants cannot be firmly fixed.
Especially when molars are extracted, the gum bone resorbs, further reducing the amount of gum bone.
For implants to be firmly fixed, 'sinus lift surgery' is needed to lift the maxillary sinus upward and graft bone into the empty space.
The maxillary sinus consists of very thin membrane that tears easily and can cause other diseases like sinusitis and rhinitis, requiring delicate technique.
Lateral approach
Open sinus lift surgery
Crestal approach
Closed sinus lift surgery
Sinus lift surgery methods
Appropriate surgical method selected according to patient condition
Lateral Approach
Open sinus lift surgery
Method of lifting sinus membrane by accessing through lateral wall

Indications
- Residual bone height less than 4mm
- When extensive bone grafting is needed
- Multiple implant placement
- When sinus floor is severely pneumatized
Advantages
- Easy visualization
- Precise membrane elevation possible
- Sufficient bone graft material application
- High success rate
Crestal Approach
Closed sinus lift surgery
Method of lifting membrane through osteotome, trephine, and hydraulic pressure

Indications
- Residual bone height 4-6mm
- When localized bone grafting is needed
- 1-2 implant placement
- When sinus floor is flat
Advantages
- Minimally invasive approach
- Short recovery period
- Simultaneous implant placement
- Minimized patient discomfort
